Australia is a beautiful melting pot of cultures and ethnic groups. Every year, families from dozens of different countries emigrate to Australia to live a life down under. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there were 7.3 million migrants living in Australia as of 2018. That represents about one-third of the continent’s population.
Tens of thousands of Japanese families have migrated to Australia. To make our Japanese neighbors feel more at home, Australia has begun to recognise and even participate in Japanese holidays. And what better way to celebrate a Japanese holiday than with a fun, creative, holiday-themed social painting class?
Celebrating Your Favourite Japanese Holiday With the Help of a Life With Paint Painting Class
At Life With Paint, we like to offer painting classes that are themed off of prominent cultural and ethnic holidays and festivals. For example, we offer themed painting classes for several Japanese holidays:
Japanese New Year (Shogatsu). This is the most important holiday in Japan. Most businesses and government offices in Japan close not just for January 1st, but also for January 2nd and 3rd. This New Year celebration celebrates both the ending of one year and the beginning of the next. Much like the Chinese New Year, the Japanese New Year is definitely a cause for celebration!
Coming of Age Day. Did you know that the Japanese have a holiday to celebrate kids becoming adults? This holiday is celebrated on the second Monday of January. How fun would it be to celebrate this holiday by taking a Life With Paint social painting class with your newly-adult son or daughter!
National Foundation Day. Celebrated on February 11th, this is an important cultural holiday in Japan. National Foundation Day is also the oldest holiday in Japan. Ancient Japanese history indicates that this holiday dates back to 600 BC when the first Japanese emperor was crowned!
Doll’s Festival. Celebrated on March 3rd, Doll’s Festival is a holiday where Japanese families wish their daughters a successful and happy life. This holiday creates an excellent opportunity to take a social painting class with a daughter, no matter her age!
Star Festival. More of a festival than a holiday, the Star Festival begins on the seventh day of the seventh month of the year. The festival celebrates the stars and the magic and wonders that astronomy and astrology have brought to Japanese culture over the centuries.

What Our Students are Saying About Our Group Painting Classes
Life With Paint offers Japanese holiday-themed painting classes as well as painting classes to celebrate just about every other holiday imaginable. We also provide hundreds of other painting classes each year, just for the sake of creating art with our friends!
Life With Paint wants to help people become artists. And we make that happen with the help of our group painting classes and our delightful artist-instructors.
And our students enjoy the experience along the way! We continuously receive positive feedback from students who have taken courses from us.
Claire Fouche loves how Life With Paint’s artist-instructors set a comfortable pace that everyone in the class can follow:
- “I have been to classes with Jasmin and Jane and it was just so so fun!! Everyone was having a great time and creating beautiful paintings even though almost none of us had been painting for a very long time. But because the guidance is so simple and step by step we all went home proud of ourselves! Thanks guys for the opportunity to have something so fun to do in Sydney.”
Vick talked about how Life With Paint helps people who think they can’t paint realise that there is an inner artist in everyone!
- “I have attended three of the life with paint classes both with a group and on my own. I recently took a friend who did not think she could paint at all and she was very impressed with her painting. The teachers are patient and very helpful. It is a wonderful way to spend a few hours and you have something worthwhile to show for your efforts. I would be happy to recommend these classes to anyone.”
Christie Lieu commented on how convenient and lovely it was to have Life With Paint organise and host a private event painting class:
- “We had a private event with Life with Paint and I couldn’t fault them. It was a good opportunity for the team to do something different and informal as you don’t get a chance to let down your hair at work. A fabulous time had by all! Booking and organising was seamless. Would do again!”

Sometimes, a student will say they’re nervous about taking a class. But if you’re having second thoughts about taking the first step into the beautiful world of painting and the arts, just consider what the famous painter Pablo Picasso had to say on the matter:
“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.”
We’ll see you in class!
